California Quail
Image 1 was taken near my home in the Cuyamaca Mountains, California. Images 2 - 7 are from the Anza Borrego Desert, California. Images 8 and 9 are from central California in and near Pinnacles National Park, where quail seem to be very common.

Gambel's Quail
This hen with a messy "hairdo" was photographed near the Salton Sea, California, in winter.

Wild Turkey
Rio Grande Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo intermedia)
This Wild Turkey subspecies was introduced into San Diego County in the 1990s. The images below were taken in the Cuyamaca Mountains, where these birds are common. The first three images are of adult male turkeys (toms).

Gould's Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo mexicana)
This Wild Turkey subspecies was introduced into certain areas of Arizona after extirpation from hunting in the early twentieth century. They were reintroduced to Madera Canyon in the early 2000s. These images were all taken near the Santa Rita Lodge in Madera Canyon.
