Botta's Pocket Gopher
The common gopher of Southern California. VERY abundant in the Cuyamaca Mountains where I live! Images 1 and 2 are from the Cuyamaca Mountains, California, with Image 2 showing the fairly rare behavior of emerging fully from a burrow. Image 3 is from the Kelso Dunes, California. This gopher was abroad from its burrow at night among the dunes.
