White-breasted Nuthatch
All images below are from the Cuyamaca Mountains, California. Males have a jet black crown and females a gray crown. Generally I see a single male and a single female in my immediate area, likely a mated pair holding a territory there.
Red-breasted Nuthatch
An occasional widespread visitor in San Diego County. This one was photographed at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park in October of 2023, when many of these birds were being seen in the region.
