Western Sagebrush Lizard
Images 1-3 were photographed in Tulare County in the Southern Sierra Nevada Mountains, California. These lizards were very challenging to approach and needed to be stalked VERY slowly in order to get close-up images. The lizard in Image 4 was photographed in Kane County, Utah.

Granite Spiny Lizard
Not as common as its close relative, the Western Fence Lizard, this larger lizard species is usually restricted to areas with large boulders. This colorful one was seen near Mission Dam, San Diego, California.

These two were found after dark in the Algodones Dunes, Imperial County, California.
Eastern Collared Lizard
Below is the only example of this spectacular lizard that I have encountered! It was photographed in Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado. It appears to be a male fresh from shedding.

Occasionally seen in Southern California deserts, this individual was photographed in the Anza Borrego Desert State Park.
Colorado Desert Fringe-toed Lizard
I have only seen these lizards in the Algodones Dunes in California. This one was abroad on a sunny morning several miles south of Glamis, California.

This individual was abroad in the daytime the Santa Rita Mountains, Arizona, during the monsoon season.
