Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS)
Images 1 - 4: The comet photographed on October 12, 2024, when it was first visible high enough above the horizon after sunset to be fairly easily photographed. These photos were taken on Eagle Peak Road, slightly southwest of Julian, San Diego County, California, is a remote spot with rolling hills and live oaks. The third image was taken with a 400 mm prime lens (and the rest with a 100 mm macro lens). The white lines in the sky in the last image are (I believe) satellites! There was a moon illuminating the landscape, pulling out detail in the foreground.
Images 5 - 7: These were taken on October 13, 2024, when the comet was higher in the sky. They were taken from Boulder Creek Road, in the backcountry of San Diego County, looking west. The highest mountain on the right in Mount Woodson, and the mountain just to its left is Iron Mountain. The smoke, smog and marine moisture near the San Diego coastline obscured the comet as it approached the horizon.
Image 8: Photographed from the Cuyamaca Mountains on October 15, 2024. The moon was almost full and very bright.
